The Green Gliders student team from the Faculty of Transportation Sciences at CTU in Prague will take part for the second time in the prestigious international Shell Eco-marathon Poland 2026, an energy‑efficiency driving competition held from June 24 to June 28, 2026, at the Silesia Ring circuit in Poland. In the Prototype category, the students will present a completely new electric vehicle this year, which is lighter, more aerodynamic, and technologically more advanced than their previous car. They head to the competition aiming to build on the experience gained during their first participation and to approach double the efficiency compared to their previous result.
Their first participation in the Shell Eco‑marathon provided the Green Gliders team with valuable experience not only in the race itself but also in developing and operating a vehicle under the demanding conditions of an international competition. This experience became the foundation for the development of a new-generation vehicle, with which they are now heading to Poland. In their debut, the team achieved a result of 171 kilometers per 1 kWh of electric energy, which corresponds roughly to the distance between Prague and Český Krumlov. This year, the students have set an even more ambitious goal. Thanks to the new vehicle and a range of technical improvements, they aim to significantly surpass their previous performance and approach twice the value achieved in their first appearance.
“Last year’s participation showed us what worked and where we have room for improvement. Thanks to the experience gained, we were able to design an almost entirely new vehicle that is lighter, more efficient, and more technologically advanced. Our goal is to move significantly further than in our first participation and to demonstrate that a team from CTU can compete in strong international competition,” says Illia Melnyk, team leader of Green Gliders.
