Jan Barta, výstava na ČVUT

CTU hosts a unique collection of contemporary Czech art owned by investor and philanthropist Jan Barta.

On Wednesday, 30 September, an exhibition of sixty paintings collected by investor and philanthropist Jan Barta will officially open on the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Prague’s Dejvice district. This is the first time the works have ever been exhibited in public. The connection is no coincidence. Jan Barta is a descendant of the celebrated inventor and graduate of the Prague technical university František Křižík, whose bust stands at the entrance to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering building.

With this initiative, CTU joins prominent universities abroad where the study of engineering and the natural sciences has traditionally gone hand in hand with art on campus. The collection owner’s primary motivation for lending the works is to help students develop not only their professional knowledge, but also other aspects of their personalities by giving them the opportunity to engage with the world of art.

The selection of artworks on display deliberately brings together artists from several generations. It includes paintings by Magdalena Jetelové (*1946), Jan Híska (*1965), Krištof Kintery (*1973), Patrik Hábla (*1975),  Lukáš Karbuse (*1981), Radka Bodzewicz (*1991), Ester Knapové (*1993) a  Anna Ruth (*1994).

The exhibition, which will run for approximately one year, is open to members of the academic community and all CTU employees. An accompanying app will guide visitors through the exhibition.
