Extract from the Study and Examination Regulations of the Czech Technical University in Prague - doctoral studies - Article 29:

  1. The aim of the state doctoral examination (hereinafter referred to as "SDE") is to verify the breadth and quality of the doctoral student's knowledge, his or her ability to acquire new knowledge, evaluate it and creatively use it in relation to the chosen field of the doctoral study program and the topic of the dissertation. Part of the SDE is a discussion on the topic of the dissertation. The condition for holding the SDE is the previous successful completion of the study block.
  2. The SDE takes place before the Examination Board for the SDE, which is proposed by the Chairman of the ORO after discussion in the ORO and is appointed by the Dean, including the Chairman of the Examination Board. The examination board shall have at least five members. The supervisor and the supervisor-specialist are not members of the committee. At least two members of the examination board may not be CTU employees. The examination board for a given field may be permanent or may be proposed for individual SDEs.
  3. The members of the examination board for SDE are professors, associate professors and eminent practitioners. 5. The doctoral student submits a written application for the performance of the SDE on the prescribed form provided by the Science & Research Department. The application includes a list of publications (projects) of the doctoral student, including their possible responses.
