The study is aimed at training highly specialized professionals in the field of air transport who are capable of independent creative activity and leadership of project teams focused on scientific research (R&D) or innovation activities in air transport. Graduates of this department are thus involved in the creation of tomorrow's aviation and find employment in multinational companies, research centres, universities or aviation organisations with a significant innovation potential.

Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Air Transport Control and Management (P) as well as graduates of related Master's degree programmes at other universities are accepted to study in the doctoral programme. The admission procedure is of the nature of open competition. Applicants who have successfully passed an entrance examination before an admissions committee, which verifies the applicants´ interest and knowledge requirements for studying the doctoral programme by means of an interview, are admitted. Here, a deeper knowledge of mathematics, an active knowledge of the English language and expertise in the field of civil aviation must be demonstrated. In addition, the candidate must convincingly demonstrate knowledge in relation to the chosen framework topic of the doctoral dissertation.

The basic characteristic of the doctoral studies in the field of Air Transport Control and Management is the disciplinary continuity with the possibility to develop a narrower professional focus in the optional part of the study block of the programme. The doctoral study programme is focused on scientific research and independent creative activity of PhD students, especially in the following areas: Human Factors in Aviation, Unmanned Systems, CNS/ATM Technologies and Operating Procedures, Modern Trends in Airport Development, Air Transport Control, Air Transport Safety, Air Transport Economics and Aviation Law.

Study structure

The programme is designed in such a way that the student has the opportunity to deepen his/her theoretical knowledge for his/her specific scientific work by solving scientific research tasks under the guidance of a supervisor. Students are prepared to deal with complex analytical and decision-making processes in the field of technology and management in air transport and telecommunications at the current level of knowledge.

The aim of the doctoral programme Air Transport Control and Management is to develop the independent creative abilities of doctoral students and methods of scientific work under the guidance of a supervisor so that they can further develop the issues of the field independently in theory and practice.

Graduate employment

Graduates will find employment in creative solutions to the issues of technology and management in air transport, in scientific research and university departments. The graduate will also find employment as a top manager and economist of air transport, in operation and design organizations, in state administration offices in solving challenging, complex problems of technology and management of air transport.
