Ing. Jiří Brož, MSc., Ph.D., a graduate of the doctoral program and current employee of the Department of Transport Telematics, won 1st place in the 7th annual competition for the best dissertation in the field of road construction, organized by the Czech Road Society, for his dissertation on "Evaluation and Design of ITS Navigation Applications in Tunnel Systems." The results of the competition were announced at the 31st Road Conference in České Budějovice on October 23, 2024, with 1,200 delegates in attendance. The award was presented by the chairman of the Czech Road Society, Ing. Petr Mondschein, Ph.D., together with the Minister of Transport, Mgr. Martin Kupka. The supervisor of the winning dissertation, doc. Ing. Tomáš Tichý, Ph.D., MBA, was also honored.
Ing. et Ing. Radim Dvořák, a doctoral student at the Department of Mechanics and Materials, received the Stanislav Hanzl Award in 2023, which CTU in Prague awards on the occasion of International Students' Day on November 17 to its best students. The award ceremony took place on November 28, 2023, in the Bethlehem Chapel during a festive concert of the Czech Engineering Academy. Ing. et Ing. Radim Dvořák is engaged in research in the field of numerical modeling and the development of a numerical solver for high-speed experiment simulations. He is also the author of a numerical model of the Hopkinson Split Bar experimental setup for dynamic test simulations.
During his doctoral studies, he collaborates with several prestigious foreign institutions (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería, Universidad de Sevilla, or Tallinn University of Technology – TalTech). The Stanislav Hanzl Award is not the only recognition Ing. et Ing. Radim Dvořák has received during his studies at the Faculty of Transportation. In 2021, he won 1st place in category S (theses) in the 28th annual competition for the Professor Babuška Award in the field of computer science, focusing on computational mechanics, computer analysis, and numerical mathematics, awarded by the Czech Society for Mechanics.
Ing. André Maia Pereira, a doctoral student at the Department of Applied Mathematics, who addresses the issue of cooperative intelligent transport systems and their use in traffic management, received the Josef Hlávka Award in 2023. This award is intended for talented students in bachelor's, master's, or doctoral studies who have demonstrated exceptional abilities and creative thinking in their field, and for young talented scientific workers of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the age of 33. The decision to award the Josef Hlávka Award is made by the board of trustees of the Foundation on the proposal of the rectors of designated Czech public universities in Prague, the rector of the Brno University of Technology, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague, and the president of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The Josef Hlávka Award is usually presented before the national holiday on November 17 at the Josef Hlávka Chateau in Lužany near Přeštice.
