The Laboratory of Aviation Safety and Security (LASS) is a part of the Department of Air Transport which concentrates on analysing and assessing safety of airports, airlines, maintenance organisations, aviation authorities and other organisations from the perspective of operational safety. It responds to current issues related to the creation of safety management systems (SMS). In addition, it assists the aviation organizations and authorities to change the current safety system to the kind of system that can be controlled using measureable safety performances. The actual research and its applications are focused mainly on the field of safety indicators. The laboratory is interested in all kinds of organisations and their operational and safety processes. Within the field of security the laboratory is focused mainly on contingency planning and issues of pre-screening of passengers. The Laboratory of Aviation Safety and Security cooperates closely with Václav Havel Airport Prague, ČSA a. s. (Czech Airlines), ŘLP s. p. (Air Navigation Services), Leos Janacek Ostrava Airport and other aviation organizations.
