Practical use of unmanned aircraft systems and solutions to ground risks

Abstract:
The project is focused on the practical application of UASs and the associated ground risks. The project builds on the research activities of the K622 and K621 institutes together with the practical cooperation of the Faculty of Transport with wide range of partners, especially with regard to the possibilities of using UASs as platforms for modern measuring methods. The goal is to identify and apply new, modern approaches that can be used not only in transportation field. The emphasis is placed on the practical usability of the selected topics and the possibility of their subsequent wider application. As an example can be shown an implementation of various documentation methods, e.g. photogrammetric measurements or laser scanning. A parallel topic addressed within the project are the UAS Ground risks, especially risk assessment for non-participating persons on the ground. The topic is based on the cooperation with the organizations concerned (JARUS, CEN, ASD-STAN, CAA) and historical involvement in the field. The goal is to identify the possibilities and methods for prediction of the course and consequences of a collision between a person and an UAS. Research topics can focus not only on the flight characteristics or parameters of various categories and types of aircrafts, but also the structural specifics of individual UAS types or practical validation and evaluation through dynamic crash tests and simulations.
