The Professional Pilot (PIL) study programme is aimed at preparing students for the profession of professional pilot. Students are prepared for the complex tasks and responsibilities associated with this profession, both in the commercial sphere and in other areas of aviation. The combination of theoretical and practical training provides a solid foundation for a successful career of this challenging and constantly in high demand occupation.

Study structure

The study is aimed at the training of university-educated professional pilots for air transport operators and for the performance of other types of aeronautical jobs for which one of the higher types of professional pilot licence with appropriate qualifications is required. Graduates of this study programme can find employment in all European countries, as the qualification obtained is common for all EASA member states (the whole EU + several others, 35 states in total). CTU is the only university in the Czech Republic that provides integrated ATPL(A) training, which is preferred by air carriers.

Practical training and excursions

Flight training is a key and practical part of the studies. Practical flying training takes place at one of the partner flight schools (currently DSA or F-AIR) of the student's choice. Students choose the flight school where they will receive their training at the beginning of their first semester of study (in the first month of study). Students pay for the practical pilot training out of their own funds. The cost of pilot training for obtaining an ATPL(frozen) is approximately CZK 1,650,000 including VAT. The prices of individual flight schools and the conditions for obtaining loans vary, so students will be given the opportunity and sufficient time to get to know each school in detail in order to choose the optimal solution for their situation.

Graduate employment

Graduates of this study programme are prepared for employment as transport pilots in any airline company, in positions such as pilot in command, co-pilot on multi-pilot aircraft in commercial air transport, pilot in command in all categories of aerial work and in the management of civil aviation organisations.
