On Thursday, May 8, 2025, a kick-off meeting was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, as part of the EU summit Climate - Neutral and Smart Cities 2025, officially launching the HE project CapaCities 2.0.
This is a project of European significance, a consortium of 71 European partners from 27 countries, consisting mainly of representatives of cities, public administration, private scientific institutions, and only ten universities.
The mission of the project is primarily to share experiences in the field of Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. It is not about defining terms or proclaiming slogans on reducing the carbon footprint but rather about sharing already functioning solutions that lead to sustainable development.
Already during the initial meeting in Vilnius, we managed to gain many interesting partners for further cooperation. Most importantly, we showcased the uniqueness of our offered competencies, for example, in the areas of digital twin cities, transportation modeling, and socio-economic topics related to transportation issues.
The HE CapaCities project is led by the Department of Smart Cities and Regions, and the responsible project manager is Ing. Petra Skolilová, Ph.D. More information here: https://capacities.eu/
The entire EU mission focused on these highly relevant topics includes nearly 30 other HE projects and, most importantly, upcoming challenges, which we will now be able to engage in more easily.
