The essence of doctoral studies is to join a selected research team at our faculty. The admission to study is therefore conditional on an individual agreement with your future supervisor, which consists of both the preparation of your dissertation topic and an agreement on financial support throughout your studies.

You can contact your supervisor directly through the contacts at the individual study programmes or through the Science and Research Department.

Announcement of the admission procedure for doctoral study programmes at CTU in Prague, Faculty of Transportation Sciences, with commencement of study from October 1, 2025.

For this admission procedure, you can choose from the following study programmes:

  • Transport Systems and Technology (P1041D040004)
  • Air Transport Control and Management (P1041D040009)
  • Smart Cities (P0731D010008)

The deadline for submitting applications is September 1, 2025.

The application form can also be filled in electronically at: https://prihlaska.cvut.cz. The application must be delivered printed with a handwritten signature and the signature of the supervisor, including mandatory attachments, to the address of the Department of Science and Research.

The admission procedure begins with the delivery of the application form.

The basic condition for admission to study in a doctoral study programme is the successful completion of studies in a Master's degree programme.

The completed and signed application form must be accompanied by:

  1. A certified copy of the diploma proving the completed master's education, aany other documents proving the exams passed (in the chosen field, in world languages). If the applicant does not have a diploma available, he/she must submit it in the case of admission to study no later than before enrolment in study. The issuance of a decision on admission to study is subject to the submission of a Master's diploma.
    Applicants who have achieved their previous education in a country other than the Czech Republic and Slovakia must submit a certificate of recognition of their diploma with the application form (carried out by the Office for Studies and Student Affairs of the CTU Rector's Office).
  2. Brief CV focusing on key qualifications and experience and including published and unpublished works (hand-signed by the applicant).
  3. A brief description of the chosen topic of the dissertation and the expected concept of its solution.
  4. A motivation letter in English containing a brief description of the chosen topic of the dissertation and the expected concept of its solution and a brief CV of the applicant focused on the applicant's key qualifications and experience.
  5. Proof of payment of CZK 950 for acts related to the admission procedure – Account number: 19-3322370227/0100, var. symbol: 99999.

Other conditions for applying for study

To apply for study, it is necessary to choose the framework topic of the dissertation from the predetermined offer published in the announcement of the admission procedure and state it in the application. The topic must be confirmed on the basis of an agreement between the applicant and the supervisor before submitting the application for study.

The framework topics of dissertations announced by individual departments (training workplaces) are available on the website within the announcement of the admission procedure and on the official board of the CTU Faculty of Transportation Sciences.


Important files to download

The admission procedure will take place in September, in the week of September 8–12 September 2025.

The exact date of the entrance examination will be specified at least 14 days in advance and applicants will receive it in the invitation.

The admission procedure also includes verification of the applicants' prerequisites for scientific work at the faculty in doctoral studies, which are in particular professional and language skills, the ability of independent creative work and team cooperation, and the readiness of the chosen topic of the dissertation.

The admission procedure takes place in the form of an admission interview conducted in English. The interview takes place in front of a committee composed of representatives of the subject-area boards of study programmes and in the presence of a potential supervisor.

Enrolment in the first year of study takes place in person at the Department of Science and Research by prior arrangement, the dates are determined by the valid admission procedure conditions for the given academic year.
