Aviation Safety and Security

Abstract:
The evolution of thinking about safety in aviation started with accident investigation, focused on the search for technical failures and deficiencies. Owing to the scale of the investigation and its results, a huge amount of technical and technological improvements were achieved. At present, research and development in aviation safety are focused on systemic approach comprising human performance variability and human-machine interactions in everyday operations. The goal is to establish conditions to reduce the potential for emerging operational errors and safety issues during normal work conditions. The project includes, as a standalone part, aviation security where it is important to dedicate greater attention to the effective and systemic implementation of security requirements, considering both predictive and proactive approach. An important part is the implementation of information technologies to monitor and control operations into existing systems used by the aviation industry. Project students are guided to recognize systemic approach and to study modern methods of assuring and managing safety and security in aviation. Their work is tied to the needs of Czech and European aviation industry, and various aviation stakeholders benefit from its results. The project leader is Dr. Andrej Lališ.
