Annotation:
When we speak of short and medium travel distances, high-speed passenger rail transport has to be considered as a serious competitor to passenger air transport. Up until a few year years ago, this statement has been just a hypothesis, sometimes even labeled utopia, because of the generally poor level of rail transport and underdeveloped high-speed rail network. Nowadays, however, this hypothesis can no longer be ignored. In China, high-speed rail network has expanded rapidly and has proven this hypothesis valid.
