About Department

The Department covers a wide range of competences in the perspective and still developing field of transport telematics or intelligent transport systems (ITS).

In addition to teaching activities, we are engaged in a wide range of scientific research activities in national and European projects and cooperate with a number of partners from both academic and commercial spheres.

In the framework of commercial cooperation, we are involved in e.g. expert assessments, analyses of traffic control and information data, development of strategies and system architectures, etc.

The main competencies of the department include the following areas:

  • transport management and microsimulation modelling of transport systems (including BIM - Building Information Modelling) - transport superstructures and control systems,
  • railway signalling systems including new approaches of Railways 4.0,
  • Telematics systems - urban engineering applications, highway applications, tunnel systems, parking systems, etc.,
  • geographic information systems,
  • check-in and information systems,
  • telecommunications technologies and cooperative systems (C-ITS),
  • Cybersecurity in ITS,
  • general, theoretical and system approaches to telematics - telematics systems architecture, safety and reliability of systems, human machine interface, predictive diagnostics, but also electromobility with emphasis on energy sources (batteries) and other alternative drives from a system perspective.

The pedagogical area is dominated by subjects focused on road and rail transport management, telematics systems, security and telecommunication systems, system sciences, geographic information systems and others.

Education in the field of Transport Telematics is also offered as part of the Lifelong Learning course.

Within the Department of Transportation Telematics, we are involved in many high-quality science and research projects, resulting in interesting outputs and publications. We are involved in projects with the private sector as well as with other departments and universities - see department projects.
