The goal is aimed to innovation of the practical physical experiments at the Faculty of Transportation Sciences, CTU in Prague. The new laboratory will support the application of modern measurement techniques in the education of bachelors. The project counts with an alteration of six already existing laboratory tasks and, additionally, with an acquisition of three new tasks. The well-equipped laboratory of Physics is fundamental for an up-to-date bachelor education at the technical university.

This project is focused on the detailed study of the airfoil boundary layer, namely on the effects of the profile surface roughness on the flight performance. The infrared camera will be used for the air flow visualization. The preliminary results of air flow visualization obtained were summarized in the co-applicant's bachelor thesis, the proposed project counts with the further development of previous conclusions.

Carbon-based coatings have significantly improved the working performance of the surfaces exposed to friction and wear in various environments. It has been showed that the driving effect of carbon-based coatings friction and wear is the third-body sliding interlayer formation. The aim of this project is to describe systematically friction, wear and the mechanisms leading to surface tribolayer formation. For this purpose, more carbon-based coating structures will be prepared. The research work willbe focused on interpretation of tribological measurements results obtained in ambient conditions, at elevated temperatures and also in vacuum environment. The main attention will be paid to deep analysis of surface tribolayer formation mechanisms, namelywear debris analysis, morphology, nucleation, growth, mechanical and thermal stability of surface tribolayer and its effect on tribological process. Such a project aimed to complex study of tribolayer behaviour with regard to the coating proper

The aim of the project is to extend the practical laboratory tasks of Physics I and II at the Faculty of Transportation Sciences by introduction of modern methods, innovative measurement organization, data acquisition and processing. The innovation is represented by complex reorganization of ten laboratory tasks that have been solved in a simply way so far. The introduction of new laboratory measurements approach will enable better experiment designing, broader using of computer equipment for data acquisition and quicker measurement control. The well equipped laboratory is important for practical education of students in bachelor stage. It enables the possibility of student's autonomous work and, thus, better application of theoretical knowledge in the practical measurement. The project is in full agreement with the goals of CTU in Prague – to prepare students well for their future carrier.

This project is focused on the development of new nanocomposite coatings with improved wear resistance at elevated temperature. The Cr-Al-Si-N coatings will be deposited by magnetron sputtering. During this project, new materials will be elaborated and their deposition processes will be optimized. Coatings will be characterized and tribologically tested, particularly at elevated temperatures. Attention will be devoted as well on the study of oxidation mechanisms, structural changes with temperature and consequent change of mechanical parametrs of coating.Main wear mechanisms will be described based on the wear tracks and wear particle analysis done by advanced Image Processing. Model of wear at elevated temperatures will be prepared in order to improve the prediction of wear behaviour of the new combinations of materials. Proposed project should promote collaboration of very young scientific team.

Výsledky projektu IG 2005 budou prezentovány formou posteru na konferenci Plasma Surface Engineering 2006, konané ve dnech 10. - 15. září 2006 v Garmisch-Partenkirchenu (SRN). Pořadatelem konference je European Joint Committee on Plasma and Ion Surface Engineering (EJC/PISE), sídlící při Fraunhoferově Institutu v Braunschweigu (SRN).
