The Course of Training

At the beginning of their studies, students visit both partner flight schools and decide according to their preferences with which they want to complete their practical flight training. The concept of integrated training is based on the fact that students study university subjects and simultaneously apply their knowledge during practical flight training lessons. The Professional Pilot study program aims to provide graduates with a competitive advantage in the labor market. Therefore the teaching of aviation subjects is not limited to minimum requirements but exceeds them many times over. In addition to practical subjects, such as principles of flight, navigation, meteorology, aircraft construction, flight planning, aviation communication, radio navigation, operational procedures, and more, it is also necessary to pass technical subjects such as algebra, geometry, calculus, physics, electrical engineering, and others as part of the studies at the Faculty of Transport. These subjects both develop logical thinking and contribute to a better understanding of the functions and principles of aircraft instruments, systems, and the principles of flight itself. The study ends with a state final examination and a bachelor’s degree (Bc.). Furthermore, according to the EASA rules, it is necessary to pass theoretical examinations at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic (CAA) to obtain the ATPL(A) certificate – a total of fourteen examinations of theoretical knowledge, for which students are very well prepared during their studies.

Practical training begins after completing the theory to begin the flight training at the end of the first semester. At first, it’s simple piloting on a single-engine aircraft to gain proper habits. Students get to experience one of the strongest moments of their aviation career during the second semester – the first solo flight without an instructor on board. After that, they continue their cross-country flights and improve their piloting skills. During the second year, night flights and simulator training are added to practice instrument flight procedures. Finally, students fly according to the instruments during their third year, training on a multi-engine aircraft is added, and the entire integrated training is completed by a practical flight test on a multi-engine aircraft with an authorized CAA examiner. Part of the integrated training is to prepare pilots for cooperation in a multi-member crew. This simulator training takes place at the end of the practical training, and it prepares pilots for airline or business jet operations. The total flight hours in the practical training during the study is about 200 hours. After completing training, theoretical examinations at the CAA, and practical flight exam, the graduate obtains a commercial pilot’s license CPL(A) with the MEP land/IR qualification, so called ATPL(A) frozen. With this license, it is possible to apply for a professional pilot job posting. However, before joining the airline or commercial air transport operator, it is usually necessary to complete a type rating for a specific type of aircraft such as Boeing 737, Airbus A320, Embraer 195, Gulfstream G650. The type rating is not part of practical training within the study.
