Annotation:
The project is devoted to the historical development of the theory of geometric probability and its applications in the Czech lands at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Besides the analysis and evaluation of scientific contributions, above all those of E. Czuber and B. Hostinský, the project is also aimed at educational treatises and textbooks. History of this theory has not yet been systematically elaborated; moreover, in the present school education, this theory is omitted in spite of exceptionally wide applications in many domains of our lives, from medicine and biology to material engineering. However, still at the beginning of the 20th century, geometric probability was included in the secondary school education. The contribution to its history also helps to show the usefulness and importance of mathematics. The aim of the project is therefore to fill in a clear space in the history of science, and to contribute to the development of education and popularization of science.
