Research and Expert Teams

We deal with the use of new algorithms for knowledge extraction, modelling of digital twins, models, simulations of territorial units, as well as advanced visualization using virtual and augmented reality. This area also includes research on complex systems, multi-agent technologies or emergent behaviour. We conduct research in the field of ICT deployment and data processing to improve managerial decision-making processes in transportation.

The laboratory focuses on creating a digital 'twin' of the city using Augmented Reality (AR). An integral part of the laboratory is a 3D model of the Prague 6 district, which was developed in collaboration between our department, the Prague 6 district, and ICT Operator. The laboratory is used not only for teaching but also for scientific activities. The model serves as a tool that can be used with software to display various scenarios, such as the impact of road closures, emergencies in the public transport system, power grid outages, water supply issues, and more.

Within this expert group we deal with the assessment of economic aspects of transport solutions, financing of transport infrastructure, project management models and the application of mathematical-economic methods to transport topics. An integral part of this is the education of public administration and the professional public in the application of Best Value methods in tenders or sustainable mobility principles.

We deal with rail transport technology, operational concepts and timetable design. We deal with the issues of capacity of transport routes, the design of timetables and capacity management tools.

In passenger transport we are primarily concerned with the applications of the tact timetable, the integral tact timetable, the issue of segmentation of service layers in public transport, zonal timetables and network operational concepts.

In freight transport, we address issues of route periodicity and their connections, path capacity utilization, and route interaction between passenger and freight transport.

In the context of research or commercial projects, we deal with the tasks of route coordination in GVD, operational concepts and timetables for long-distance and regional transport, including technical and technological basis for the selection of carriers in the public service tender regime.

In the framework of student projects, it ensures the functioning of the so-called Takt projects.

The current freight transport and logistics environment is undergoing an intensive process of transformation. We are addressing the latest trends in digitalisation and electro-mobility, in accordance with the rapidly changing market structures and business models in logistics. We focus on last mile issues using new technologies, as well as minimizing the environmental impact with CO2 reduction = carbon neutrality.

We also offer consulting in the development and optimisation of logistics solutions.

Proper communication of transport solutions, measures or education of the general public are the key for a functional environment of quality transport.Within this expert group we offer the preparation of communication strategies for transport projects and measures. We develop complete communication strategies for transport and smart solutions.

We deal with planning, technology and operation of public transport. This area includes modelling of transport relations in the territory, source-destination analysis, design of lines and line networks, creation of timetables, vehicle circulation, driver shifts.

Within the framework of research or commercial projects, we deal with operational concepts and timetables for long-distance and regional transport (rail or bus) as well as for urban transport, including technical and technological documents for the selection of carriers in the public service tender regime.

Within the framework of student projects, it ensures the functioning of the so-called Tact projects.

Within this expert group, we take a sociological view of traffic problems. Our main theme is working with externalities and their transfer to the source using the tools of Coase's theorem. We carry out studies of the transport needs of territorial units on the basis of direct questionnaire surveys and a close cooperation with the public administration.

We deal with design, project management and other soft skills in the context of the application of Smart City tools. The main mission is to build quality and sustainable transport concepts that lead to an improvement in the quality of life for all of us and respect the carbon neutrality concept.

These are potentially new areas of research such as investigating the impact of climate change on territorial units, assessing concepts of specific smart solutions (critical infrastructure of transport routes and terminals, industrial zones, tourism, railway stations, etc.) or ESG non-financial audits of individual activities.
